Young People Who Care

Anawim Ministries

Anawim Ministries began in 1976 as a Christian volunteer service community known as Young People Who Care.  Led by the Catholic sisters of the Community of Anawim, we strive to meet the unmet needs of the Clearfield County, PA, and surrounding area.

We exist through our retreat work and the generosity of volunteers and donations.  We are a charitable organization with a 501(c)(3) Religious Non-Profit organization status under the IRS.

Anawim is a Hebrew word pronounced: aw-na-weem.  It comes from the Old Testament and means the remnant people, those who remain faithful to God, even amid persecution.

Anawim Ministries is ecumenical in nature, striving to meet people’s needs regardless of faith affiliation.  God is Spoken of Here!

The Gleaners by Jean-François Millet, 1857

A symbol of the Anawim, the Gleaners, represent the rural poor.  They are the poor who pick the remnants from the fields for their substance.

Our Mission

Anawim Ministries, formally known as Young People Who Care, Inc. is a Catholic grassroots ministry. Anawim Ministries provides a wide, ecumenical circle of care among those who give and those who receive. Its members are committed to creating a holistic and nonjudgmental environment where the exchange of culture, education and training empower individuals and groups. While adapting to changing times and needs, prayer, hospitality, simplicity and service remain constant characteristics of

Anawim Minsitries.

Our History

Anawim Ministries, formally know as Young people Who Care, Inc., a grass roots ministry, was founded in Frenchville, PA in Clearfield County in 1976 as a response to the call of action found in the Pastoral Letter, This Land is Home to Me. Under the leadership of Sr. Therese Dush, both youth and adults came together to start a mission and respond to the unmet needs of Clearfield County and neighboring counties.
Anawim Ministries is a volunteer organization that began reaching out to those in need by providing assistance with home repairs, cleaning, transportation to medical appointments, and other services that were not available through other agencies. Over the past 40years, Anawim Ministries has expanded from the direct social service program , which it still provides, to include adult and youth retreats, spiritual direction and counseling, and services for pregnant women and those with infants.
